Addressing issues the major parties are avoiding
boomer tax
‘Boomer tax’ is an umbrella term that encompasses the following property tax reforms:
Abolish negative gearing.
Reduce the capital gains tax discount from 50% to 25%.
This will reduce incentives for property investors (making it easier for first-home buyers) and increase government revenue.
50% more wildlife sanctuaries
To ensure resiliance in the face of increasing environmental pressures we need to conserve Australian biodiversity:
Expand the National Reserve System by 50% to further protect vulnerable marine and terrestrial environments.
Within the above expansion, establish 10,000 square kilometers of new wildlife sanctuaries with predator-proof fencing. This will prevent extinction of threatened and endagered native animals from feral cats.
federal iCAC
Immediately establish a federal Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to combat corruption in federal politics.
This is a no brainer and well overdue. Why would states and territories have anti-corruption bodies but no such body exist for federal politics? Don’t let the Prime Minister gaslight the country into thinking that we dont need a federal ICAC.
Climate Change
Don’t let Australia fall further behind the rest of the world. Could we be a leader for once?
Introduce an emissions trading scheme to cost-effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the short-term.
Immediately abolish all gov-funded fossil fuel subisidies.
Ban new coal, oil, or gas infrastrucutre (build new green infrastrucutre).
Net-zero emissions by 2035.
5% wage increase for workers in childcare, nursing, disability support and aged care
Many healthcare workers are underpaid for the work they do. We need:
5% pay increase for workers in nursing, childcare, disability support, and aged care.
Subsidised education and streamlined career pathways for those wanting to enter the healthcare workforce.
Equity and respect for all genders
The federal government needs to genuinely promote equity and respect for all genders, including women and those in the LGBTQI+ community. Based on the Liberal government’s track record, a 100% increase in effort is needed. Immediate priorities:
Fund new programs that prevent discrimination, harassment and violence against women/ LGBTQI+ community members.
Education campaigns aimed at shifting outdated mindsets.
